Someone on a bullet journal comm mentioned this like it was no big deal...

Anyone fancy walking to Mordor? *waits for the Bean reply*

The Eowyn Challenge has a walking challenge, whereby the miles you walk in rl can be tracked to correspond with Frodo's journey in LoTR. Or Bilbo's.
It's so cool! If you can measure the distance you walk, you can see where you would be in the story and I'm geeking so hard right now...

I worked out that since January 1st I've walked 149 miles (I walk about 5 miles a day with Lily) so I'm two days out from Bree heading east towards Chetwood. How cool is that! I'm hoping to get to Rivendell by the end of April.

You can find the challenge here - The Eowyn Challenge
I think there are check-ins and whatnot but anyway...

Oh, and if you want to measure how far you walk, this thing is awesome. Also free. https://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

This one's easy : )

One Small Step by [livejournal.com profile] sandymg

I'd had thoughts and inklings and wonderings for years, but reading this fic made me realise that maybe there was actually something to it. A year later, I was diagnosed with Asperger's. Years and years of doctors and psychologists but it took sweet Jared for me to find out who I really am. If that isn't life changing, I don't what is : )  Thanks, Hun x

I'm in bed but was gonna do this real quick. Self recs.

I was going to put my Xmas Fic I wrote for meus venator - http://alexisjane.livejournal.com/285361.html - coz I really like these guys...but then the challenge is to rec three things!

I've been thinking about Sunday, Maybe Monday a lot - http://alexisjane.livejournal.com/271063.html - probably going to work on it some more, turn it into a full length story. I miss those boys.

And I know it's not technically fannish but I made this pic for my Daniel and Elliott story and I just really love it! - http://alexisjane.livejournal.com/256701.html - I can't use it for promo as I don't have the images rights but oh my heart...I really wish I did : )

Anyway. Sleep now. More tomorrow Xxx

Day 4

In your own space, create a fanwork.

Oh man...I'm not really in the brain space to make anything but I did find this...bonafide future spn fangirl right there : )

Day 5

Leave feedback for a fanwork.

Everytime I read something : ) xx
alexisjane: (Gazes Into You)

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

Ummmm....

1. I guess...I'm going to change my journal theme – I can't take the emojis of extraordinary size anymore – so a new banner would be nice, with the boys and Dylan and Tyler...and some Dark Tower stuff...or something.

2. If someone can persuade Funko to make a Derek bobble head, that would be nice. I think him and Phil would look so nice together : )

3. Art for any of my fics, like title cards or whatever for those that don't have one. IDK...anything like that.

Day 03

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Oh Lordy...

1. It sounds bizarre I know but...Space Alpacas - I'm stupidly proud of this fic. It's so far out of my comfort zone. I don't write creature fic or sci-fi, but I'm so happy with the way this came out. I've half a mind to write some mad epic 200k version of this, I love it so much...although maybe without the alpaca complication (how the hell do they build spaceships with hooves!? IDEK!)

2. No Burden - I think the prompt was 'bruised knees' or something, so ended up with a hurt/comfort that I really enjoyed writing and I think is one of my best SPN fics. The brothers being brothers, but being in love too. I don't really write in present tense so this was a bit of a challenge.

3. I Stumble Forward -
My baby. My first. Not really my best – I think Gazes Into You is much better – but this one was a true labor of love.

4. The Grave - A poem written when S9 had the boys stifling in the bunker and seemingly withdrawing from each other. I don't get the poetry urge very often (and mad props to fannishliss for most of the heavy lifting with the structure) so I'm super proud of how this turned out.

Day 01

In your own space, talk about why you are doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge? What drew you to it as a participant? What do you hope to accomplish by doing these challenges?

Um...I don't really know. I think I like the Snowflake Challenge as it's a good way to start off the new year and connect to fandom after being pulled every which way during the festive season. The questions usually make you consider aspects of fandom, and fic, plus I'm a sucker for lists or anything resembling a list : )

I don't know if I'll make it to Day 15 this year but I'm gonna try to start the year as I mean to go on...and actually finish stuff for a change! x
alexisjane: (Gazes Into You)

So, my friend linked me to this and it sounds like it could be interesting.

6 week online course, 4 hours per week, run by the University of Dundee which is pretty special, I think.

Starting with the discovery of a body and taking you through the forensic identification process.

I think if you want to write anything vaguely police procedural-ish, this could be a great source of information and inspiration.

I'm signed up and have my shades ready to roll!

Starts Monday. Oh, and it's free. And you get a free Val McDermid e-book at the end of it.

Just clickety the pic to go to the page.

MOOCs FTW!! \0/

Let me know if you sign up, and we can help each other with our homework!

I can't...but you should!! How cool is this challenge!

"It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, for starters." Tony is gripping his hand, his eyes are sad underneath the shades. He looks a little lost. "You're just the embodiment of the American Dream, Mr. Rogers. I bet you puke sunshine and wear sweater vests unironically."

"Are things that easy where you come from?"

"You make it sound like I drive a UFO."

Steve nods seriously. "You're definitely from another planet."

More art bits and pieces : ) )

And lastly this gif, which is terrible but it made me smile : )

Just wanted to do a quick pimp for my LiveStream thing, but moreso, the [livejournal.com profile] wedraweveryday comm

If you like doing art or looking at art, come be with us! The aim is to draw something everyday, or everyday you can, and post something. There's tutorials and feedback and all kinds of art related stuff, not necessarily fannish, not necessarily drawing. Just art.

'S nice : )

Anyway, when I have the wherewithall to do a LiveStream, I'll probably just announce it on there coz crossposting is boring. But if you miss it, the videos stay on my channel for a month, I think, so you can go watch them there. I'm happy to take requests/concrit/cookies/suggestions to make the vids more interesting : )

Just wanted to say, it was all y'all's Day 3 today but my Day 9 and I just felt awful, really physically tired, like there was no energy in my body. I could have easily skipped, easily thought "Well, it's just one day, it doesn't really matter."

But I've been here before and I know it does matter. So I did it. My workout was lacklustre and it took forever but I did it and I'm so glad I did!

Anyway, I figure that feeling is going to be coming your way soon and I just wanted to say, DON'T SKIP! You'll regret it! Even if you only go half as hard, and put in half as much effort, still DO IT!

Achieving your goal on the days it's easy is one thing, but doing on the days when it's hard is AMAZING! You'll feel so much better for it : )

Anyway, hope you're all not too achy! : ) xx

**NB - If you think you're going to hurt yourself, for the love of God, stop. You can permenantly damage yourself doing this stuff, so please do be careful. Pain is there for a reason, listen to it.**

1st Dec: [livejournal.com profile] ephermeralk - Favorite Mexican food/ what would you want to try if you were actually IN Mexico and/or an ode to nachos

Yay for food questions!

My experience of Mexican food is thusly...bearing in mind I can't eat spicy foods. I want to, I just can't. And yes, I know you get used to it if you persevere and all that, but this is...no. I used to be able to but after a course of hospital treatment I just don't seem to be able to get my throat to do anything other than violently burn...so...

I like nachos. Some pubs serve them here and they're always a good thing to get but I don't know how authentic they are. They generally have chili, sour cream, guacamole, cheese and stuff on which I really like...except I don't like that it's not evenly distributed...or that I have to share. But the nachos, I like.

I like burritos. My son discovered burritos when a small Mexican take out place opened around the corner from us and for a while it was all burritos all the time. Except they were too much food. I can eat a lot and I could eat a whole burrito but oh god...I would have to lie in the floor for about four hours afterwards. But..delicious. Eat half, you say? Don't be ridiculous!

I went to a Mexican restaurant with a friend. We hadn't been before but apparently it was supposed to be really authentic, wonderful Mexican food. I had swordfish. I love swordfish. It was inedible...and I'll eat anything. Also, how do you screw up swordfish! My friend had something meaty with a chocolate sauce. It was horrible. Like really disgustingly horrible.

I just thought the restaurant was bad but then my other friend who had spent a long time traveling around Mexico said that actually the food was pretty bad so it could have been on purpose.

Thus ends my experience with Mexican food.

If I were in Mexico, I would try everything! I love food and I like trying new things, so as long as it wasn't too spicy, it would be in my mouth. Yeah, they might be some ick, but you never know what's going to become your most favorite food in the world so you have to try! : )

I couldn't do an ode...

A Haiku to Mexican Food.

Nachos are so good.
Burritos make me happy.
No, not too spicy.

I did it! Three, count them...THREE...RBB entries submitted. They look like crap right now but they are in! Now, I just have to podfic and edit 10k of torture porn by Friday and I'm back on schedule *whimpers*

In RL news, I had a query from someone wanting to commission 4k's worth of art, this evening...Yay \0/...except the images they wanted a recommission of, weren't mine...awkward. Nevermind.

I made a happy dance gif to cheer myself up, so there's that.

  1. How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for?
I first found my way to the SPN Family and fanfic on LiveJournal last year. I read for a few months before writing something  and posting it with a huge amount of support from [livejournal.com profile] ash_carpenter and haven't stopped since : )
