Someone on a bullet journal comm mentioned this like it was no big deal...

Anyone fancy walking to Mordor? *waits for the Bean reply*

The Eowyn Challenge has a walking challenge, whereby the miles you walk in rl can be tracked to correspond with Frodo's journey in LoTR. Or Bilbo's.
It's so cool! If you can measure the distance you walk, you can see where you would be in the story and I'm geeking so hard right now...

I worked out that since January 1st I've walked 149 miles (I walk about 5 miles a day with Lily) so I'm two days out from Bree heading east towards Chetwood. How cool is that! I'm hoping to get to Rivendell by the end of April.

You can find the challenge here - The Eowyn Challenge
I think there are check-ins and whatnot but anyway...

Oh, and if you want to measure how far you walk, this thing is awesome. Also free. https://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

Rainbow Snippets is an opportunity for authors to post a six-sentence snippet of their lgbtq fic - whether it be published, free or wip - every weekend for everyone's perusal on Facebook.

Authors comment with a link to their snippet on the post of the week, and then we all read them.

It's a nice way to sample author styles, or published works. I've gone on to read a couple of stories just from the snippets.

Anyway, here's mine for this week - http://alexjane.info/?p=298 - it might look a little familiar to a couple of people : ) but do follow the link to the snippets page...there's lots more to look at! xx

The only thing I'd add, is that I was going to keep my journal strictly for fic...nothing else...just fic.

That didn't really work out : ) xx

Okay, I'm sharing this for two reasons.
First, omg beautiful pictures!
Second, (I can hardly say it) in the comments...[livejournal.com profile] riyku and [livejournal.com profile] homo_pink talking fic ideas *bites fist*
It's very early in the morning and I'm really not awake yet but I actually cried. My two favorite writers doing words and stuff together. It makes me emotional, okay!

Anyway...pretty : ) x

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] riyku at guess i've always had a thing for shaggy-headed boys
there's a story behind this, or a story inside of this, but recently i posted a photo on twitter to try to inspire a certain someone to write a certain thing, and then i was out and about with [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte and we started talking about said photo, and i accidentally let it be known that i have a whole folder of photos i thumb through from time to time when i'm thinking about what to write and how to write it, and she accidentally let it be known that it might be a good idea to share, and here you have it. it's pre-series and it's wincesty, at least in my head.
alexisjane: (S+D library)
NaNoWriMo starts so soon, I can almost smell it!

Last year, I bummed out, mainly as I got distracted by fanfic ...SQUIRREL!...but this year I will be tackling the BB and aiming to get my first draft of that done. (They even have a fanfic option in the genre categories. *bites fist*)

But even if you don't fancy writing 1667 words a day for 30 days, you can still take advantage of all the lovely writing advice on the website. I don't think you have to sign up to see it, but even if you do, it's free and there are some really good articles, writing exercises and advice from some really, really good writers. Even on the prep page, they have some good links to actual practical advice...I particulaly like the woman who says we MUST eat chocolate.

As resources go, I think this might be a good one. Just thought I'd mention it : )
alexisjane: (a- Dean looking down)
I've seen this everywhere but [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal asked for it so... : ) x

  1. How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for?
I first found my way to the SPN Family and fanfic on LiveJournal last year. I read for a few months before writing something  and posting it with a huge amount of support from [livejournal.com profile] ash_carpenter and haven't stopped since : )

Blatherings.... )
alexisjane: (a - alec flicking popcorn)
I'm posting my spn_cinema contribution later so it seems appropriate to do this now.

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).

This is really HARD!

1. Star Wars (The first three but esp. Empire) - This will forever be at the top because of thisslightly long winded explanation I gave for the Snowflake Challenge back in January )

2. In Bruges - This is at the top of my "If I had written that I could die happy" list. It's sad, and suspenseful and dark and so fucking funny...It's not the most brilliant thing you'll see, but it has everything I could wish to achieve in a story. It's what I'm working towards.

3. Audition - Sweet and simple and beautiful and scares the fucking shit out of me. I just feel like so much is said with so little. Also...girl power : ) If anyone wants to J2 this for me, I will gladly have your babies!

4. Hercules - Yes, the Disney version. No, I haven't lost my mind.

5. The Dark Knight Trilogy - Love Batman (see Star Wars explanation), especially love this Batman. It's beautiful and dark and Christian and Ken and Liam and Heath and Gary and Morgan and TOOOOM...oh my god I love it!

6. Pride and Prejudice (2005 version) - actually I love all the versions but this one made me love the book. Hated the book since being made to read it at 15. Thought Lizzy was a bitch and Darcy was a dick. This version made me read it differently. Lizzy is book smart but not necessarily people smart and Darcy is just cripplingly shy. When I read it like that, I get what everyone sees in it. I shit you not I watched this once a day for about three months last summer and still listen to the soundtrack at least that much. No. 17 on the 'Reasons that RL men are completely ruined for me' list.

7. Anything that Ray Harryhausen worked on - Scared the friggin' crap out of me. Seriously. But also taught me that reality is truly a place for people with no imagination and that if you don't like it, you can just make your own. It might look crude now but there is an elegance and authenticity to his animation that still blows me away. I'm all for CGI but my heart will always belong to Ray and his plasticine creations.

8. The Black Hole - the foundation for my love of sci-fi. Again, gave me nightmares (all of these things from my childhood seem to be feeding my love of horror which is interesting)

God. Struggling to think of two more...if it were TV shows this would be much easier!

9. Amelie - Same reasons as for 4. but more beautiful and French and No.24 on the 'Reasons that RL men are completely ruined for me' list.

10. The Doberman Gang - *rolls eyes at self* Okay, I saw this when I was a kid and it has always stuck with me. I love dogs and training dogs and I think that this is one of the big reasons why. I have not seen this for a very long time but I remember being so completely caught up in it...It looks ridiculous now but it holds a special place in my heart : )

I'll probably think of a ton of other ones that are more appropriate later but for now that's it. Talk about random : ) x
alexisjane: (my boys)
Back before the beginning of time...well when I first join LJ in October...I wrote these short ficlets prompted by this post on Pinterest. I'm currently re-jigging my Masterlist and decided to tidy these up a bit by sticking them in the same post...for reasons...except it won't let me so there's a link at the bottom to another page.
12648 words over 20 ficlets
I'm grouping them kinda by rating, also for reasons...
They are unbeta'd and there are spoilers and Wincest galore...that's the only warnings you're getting...you guessed it...for reasons...: ) x

PG-ish )

Day Three

Express your fondness for your friends using someone else's words

Maybe a weird choice but I guess this was me before the fandom. You all do the 'greatest thing', everyday and helped me find 'what I knew' : ) x

Bright light almost blinding, black night still there shining,
I can't stop, keep on climbing, looking for what I knew.

Had a friend, she once told me, "You got love, you ain't lonely,"
Now she's gone and left me only looking for what I knew.

Mmm, I'm telling you now, The greatest thing you ever can do now,
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now, It's very easy just...

Met a man on the roadside crying, without a friend, there's no denying,
You're incomplete, they'll be no finding looking for what you knew.

So anytime somebody needs you, don't let them down, although it grieves you,
Some day you'll need someone like they do, looking for what you knew.

Mmm, I'm telling you now, The greatest thing you ever can do now,
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now, It's very easy just...

alexisjane: (there ain't no me)
I didn't write a reaction post to last weeks ep. because I think everything that I thought had been said bar one thing.
Well, maybe two.

Tim Omundson. Blows. My Mind.

Even though he's been in fucking everything apparently, I only knew him from Psych, in which he is extremely funny and even though the show is flagging a bit IMO (apart from 8:02 which I just watched and is Hi.La.Ri.Ous), he always delivers.

Then I saw him in The Booth At The End.
This is the show. THE show.

If I could have only ever written one tv thing (movie- In Bruges. book - The Stand) , it's this. As far as I'm concerned it is one of the most perfect pieces of story telling ever. If you haven't seen it, beg, borrow or stream it where ever you can. It's almost definitely not for everyone. Originally made as a series of 7 minute(?) long webisodes, it's performed almost like a play, interweaving the stories of several people who never actually meet into a web of horrfying, beautiful, uplifting devastating complex storylines that merge and disintegrate...it's awesome. I think they were then bunched together and shown on SciFi(?) in three eps. Season 2...not as good but ready to donate an organ if need be for S3.

Anyway, Tim Omundson is in that. And when I saw him walk on, I was really not sure and fully expecting the same sort of character as in Psych. Fuck me. He was a different person. I know...actor...but really, his physicality, his voice, it was like  he had a brother or something that was just filling in. It was astounding.

And then again in 'First Born'. He's just staggering. And it's not just the beard...okay, it's a bit the beard. He has prescence and strength and is quite frankly fucking scary. He is just amazing. I'm so, so glad they got him for this. The casting guys should get a medal, a great big huge shiny medal that you can peel the foil off and it's chocolate underneath...but ginormous ; )

I thought he was really good. I want more of him. Lots more.

Now the actual thought.

What do you mean you haven't seen it? FFS Keep Up! (spoilers) )
Anyway, watch this and tell me you don't long for a another season like that.

That was it.

Day Six

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

Star Wars
utter rambling and spoilers for all three films i think (WTF, why haven't you watched them! What's wrong with you!) )
alexisjane: (blood tattoo)
Today was supposed to be my first day back at work.
I had two family emergencies (that weren't all that emergency-like after all) before 2pm. So I didn't get much work done. But I did some, so that's a start!

Yesterday I started a thread over at the [livejournal.com profile] spn_bunker about first time posting a fic as the filthy lovely [livejournal.com profile] somersault_j did that very thing last night and I was thinking how hard it was.
I was going to add my own but then, as usual, being that I like the sound of my own voice way too much, it got a little out of hand and I went the tmi route...just for a change.

So this is it. How I ended up here...believe it or not the abridged version : ) x
