Day 2
In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.
I guess the community on LJ I really like is
Outside of LJ...I like Pinterest. I used to have a gigantic file of images on my desktop that was impenetrable. Now I just have a button to press and I can see all my gumph laid out pretty online! I tried to keep it geek free as the rl people in my life can see it but it's inevitably become a mess of SPN gifs and close ups of Jensen's mouth...oh well. If you follow the right people there is always something interesting to see that you might otherwise have missed...Stuff
I spend a lot of time swirling in a Youtube vortex and one of my fave things is Geek and Sundry, a Youtube channel mostly run by Wil Wheton and our own, lovely, Felicia Day. There's a whole bunch of nerd stuff, comedy, gaming and animations.
I specifically like Co-optitude, which is her and her
Also Vaginal Fantasy, which is Felicia, Bonnie Burton, talking about romance novels, sexy times and getting drunk (not necessarily in that order), featuring tiny wine, Bonnie's dog, Cumberbatch obsession and taxidermy, Veronica's secret crush (I still don't know who it is), Kiala not being able to get a word in edgewise and eventually Bonnie being so drunk she squicks everyone by talking about how much she wants to bang either (or both) of the Winchesters. It's very funny.
That's about the extent of my online existence. I feel better about myself already : ) x

I always feel better about myself when I realize how much self-restraint I have when it comes to wasting time on the internet ... MOST of the time. ;-)

Date: 2014-01-02 11:53 pm (UTC)It's easy. It's basically a place to store interesting images or links to interesting links that are viewed as an image.
You can upload things from your computer or if you happen to come across a picture or article or website that you'd like to share or go back to, you can just press a button on your browser tool bar and it will save it for you.
Once it's on Pinterest you can see the image on there but you can also click through to take you back to the website that you originally saw it on, which is dead handy for articles or whole websites.
Images, or Pins, are organised into boards.
People have boards for craft things or clothes or pets or recipes or anything really.
I have a board for Fictions, which is anything to do with tv or books or stuff like that and I have one called Macabre which is all stuff thats a bit gross or dark and Knowledge which is stuff like how to get stains out of leather, shoesize converters and quotes that mean something to me.
You can also make boards private so only selected friends can view them. I have one of cute guys, coz frankly that shit's embarrassing at my age! You can also make group pages that lots of people can contribute to.
You can have as many different boards as you like and can call them anything you want, depending on how many characters are available.
When you pin an image, it asks you which board you'd like to pin it to but you can always go back and rearrange it later.
You also have a feed, like an flist : ) Initially, you can look through categories too see what people have been pinning or search by keyword and when you find something you like you can look at the person's boards and opt to follow one or all of them. Then whenever they pin something, it shows up in your feed.
If you find you're getting too much stuff that you don't like (like a thousand pictures of fudging waterfalls, Jeez!) you can unfollow the offending board or person.
When you pin something you are given the option to see what else that person has pinned, other boards with similar subjects and things the bot in charge thinks you might like based on your choices.
You can also like pins so they don't show up on your boards or feed but you can access them through your likes page.
They have a fantastic mobile app that I find quicker to use than the website too. Basically you just need to go on and press all the buttons and you'll get used to it in no time!
Someone described it recently as like facebook but you don't have to talk to anyone! Really it's just a place to find and share visual stuff that you like and have a means to horde and comfortably view said stuff!
The basics page explains everything and has portals to getting started! https://en.help.pinterest.com/entries/25330993-Pinterest-basics
It also has a really good SPN presence by people who find some great stuff. I like it : ) x

Date: 2014-01-03 03:58 am (UTC)I like Pinterest too. I don't have a lot of boards yet and I can't figure out how to pin things I just find rather than pins that are already on pinterest but I've gotten some great recipes and possible travel destinations and a board for SPN...

Date: 2014-01-03 11:33 am (UTC)If you go here http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/ You want the Pinterest Button. It puts a little button in your browser and when you're on a website you can just click on it and then it'll show you which images you can pin. And then you can pin to your hearts content : ) x

Date: 2014-01-03 01:02 pm (UTC)I like the fact that we'll start out talking about the way in which the fandom is perceived by the creators of the show or how the Metatron storyline might play out or something sorta serious but we'll end up discussing the merits of Porkys 2 over the original, or Sam hair in S3 vs S9 or something that's not so serious but still just as important.
It's super friendly too : ) x
