That thing where you're tracking your word count and you feel stupid having to put down "14" for your day total but then you know those words were damn good. That.

alexisjane: (a- Dean looking down)

Someone on a bullet journal comm mentioned this like it was no big deal...

Anyone fancy walking to Mordor? *waits for the Bean reply*

The Eowyn Challenge has a walking challenge, whereby the miles you walk in rl can be tracked to correspond with Frodo's journey in LoTR. Or Bilbo's.
It's so cool! If you can measure the distance you walk, you can see where you would be in the story and I'm geeking so hard right now...

I worked out that since January 1st I've walked 149 miles (I walk about 5 miles a day with Lily) so I'm two days out from Bree heading east towards Chetwood. How cool is that! I'm hoping to get to Rivendell by the end of April.

You can find the challenge here - The Eowyn Challenge
I think there are check-ins and whatnot but anyway...

Oh, and if you want to measure how far you walk, this thing is awesome. Also free. https://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm

Chaps. I'm going to be here, doing this thing. If you want to come...do that. There'll be books, and wine...probably.
God, there better be wine.
Anyway.
This.

Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

This one's easy : )

One Small Step by [livejournal.com profile] sandymg

I'd had thoughts and inklings and wonderings for years, but reading this fic made me realise that maybe there was actually something to it. A year later, I was diagnosed with Asperger's. Years and years of doctors and psychologists but it took sweet Jared for me to find out who I really am. If that isn't life changing, I don't what is : )  Thanks, Hun x
alexisjane: (a- huh?)
Spend months crafting a story. Spend even more time promoting, and cajoling people to leave a like or a review or a comment.

Spend five fucking seconds drawing a frog. Post it on a bullet journal FB comm. 24hrs later...

...lol! Who knew people liked frogs so much! Maybe I should quit writing and take up full time doodling ; )

And yes, I've started bullet journalling : ) It's pretty awesome. I probably do a post about it soon x

Looking to get some reviews on Amazon (US and UK) and Goodreads for 'Tis the Season. I have 28 copies to give away.
27k - 81 pages - festive romance - second chances - contemporary

So far the feedback has been great, but books live and die with reviews--and I'm talking quantity not quality very often. Give me a three-star, one word review on anything I write and I'll be a very happy bunny--and right now this is dying (poor little book) So I'm on a review drive!

Blurb and whatnot... )
alexisjane: (red - Jen and cillian)
Just wanted to drop this here quickly.

I'm going to this thing. It should be fun and interesting and lots of the writers that I know who are going are fangirls too.

Anyway, I think there are some places left : ) xx

Queer Company 2

Reading, writing and publishing are fulfilling occupations in themselves, but we also feel very lucky to be working in this particular genre – not least because of the wonderful sense of community. To celebrate our excellent friendships – and in the hope of making even more – Manifold Press is delighted to be hosting this UK-based event.

Queer Company 2 will be a small, friendly gathering designed to engage and inspire. This one-day event is planned for Saturday 5 November 2016 at The Jam Factory in Oxford.

Everyone is welcome! The only requirement is that you love this genre we share.

Please note that registrations will close on Saturday 22 October!

Can anyone rec me any decent Gilmore Girls gen or PG fic or authors that might have stiff on AO3?

Asking for a friend.

No really. They don't know where to start : ) xx

This was pretty much me all weekend. I successfully managed to avoid eye contact with Jordan Hawk for three days (Go Me!) although I did accidentally talk to Jay Northcote...she was really nice about it though : )

Gonna spend the day with me mam and try to decompress a little so I can start writing tomorrow in earnest. Knackered but inspired is a weird combination.

Your faces...I miss them ♥

alexisjane: (TW - Sterek)

Chaps. I was up all night doing this...Chuck knows why...but now there are free PDF and mobi downloads of Something Beginning with "V" on my website. Coz formatting e-books is just my favourite thing in the world right now.   *coughs*procrastinating*coughs*

I'd tried to get the epub to work but the plugin was having none of it. I'll keep trying to fix that when I have a minute but in the meantime, if you want one, just email me and I'll send it over.

Anyway. Mad-panic month is nearly over! Just got to prep for UK Meet at the weekend...then actually get there and do the thing...then I'm free and clear 'til the New Year and beyond!! Cannot wait to get back to writing!

Hope you all are doing okay. Seriously miss your faces ♥
alexisjane: (humbert)

For half an hour tonight, starting at 9pm BST (1pm EDT, 4pm PDT, I think) I'll be at Victoria Sue's release party on Facebook talking about Home Is Where You Are, werewolves, and...well, whatever you want to talk about, I guess.

I've never done one of these before but I think readers just come by and ask questions and we chat...? I don't even know. So if you have time to drop by, it would be nice to see some friendly faces : )

Also, I'll be doing a giveaway of a paperback and some other swag thingies...which may or may not be an incentive : )

Anyway. That's where I'll be. Hope you can pop by xx

Can you tell I'm tired? I'm quite tired. Bed now.

Call out for Beta Readers

I'm going to start editing my original fic, Little Werewolf House, this week, so if you would like a sneak peek at some Old West Werewolf action, then it would be great to have a few people to give it a look over.

HOWEVER...
Don't sign up until you've read the post beneath the cut. I'm not looking for proof reading at this point. I need feedback so smooth out the kinks...or lack there of. So, if you think you can put up with my bossiness, pm me and I'll give you run down of the warnings, etc, so you can make a decision. There are...a few : /
Trying something new! )

I'm going to try to edit a chapter everyday, RL permitting, and send them out around that frequently.

Anyway...how exciting!!
alexisjane: (a- Hmmmm)

Little Werewolf House is done!!!

At least the first draft is. I'll be making a call for betas in about two weeks, then the editing can begin.

Thank God it's over! 60k words in a month! Never doing that again xx

And yes I am drinking now...what did you think I'd be doing? *kisses*
alexisjane: (spinning ball of death)
So, I just found out my short story will be included in the Valentines Anthology from Love Lane Books next month. Luckily, I was lying down already. I'm fricken excited but also kinda having an unexpected "Aw shit...I guess that means I have to work at this thing now" moment.

But in other, not unrelated news, a complete stranger – not a fangirl or RL friend or anyone who gives two shits about how I feel – read my Halloween story and really liked it! I made a complete stranger cry and feel sad \0/ Go me! So that's taking the edge off my burgeoning panic about this other thing.

Already thinking about The Further Adventures of Daniel and Elliot.

Maybe something for Easter.

*checks schedule*

*cries*

Me talking about my *feelings* )

Me talking about the tattoo...and *feelings* )

Anyway...it's looking pretty dark and angry right now, but it's going to settle down into light sepia eventually. It's weird how I feel like I was walking around with something missing for so long, and now I'm complete. It's a nice way to start the new year : )

Actual picture here : ) )

Closure

During our conversation yesterday, when Milly and I talked about...well, everything actually...I remembered this article by Edmond Manning, and thought I'd share it.

In the small time that I've been edging my face into the world of mm writers, the most astounding cases of catfishing you can imagine have been going on. Like...mind-boggling deception, and I don't just mean revelations of women using male pen names, but whole world building and casts of characters over years. It's quite something.

Anyway, lots has been written on it, but this post I thought was particularly good. Also written by a really great writer. Who's very funny. And clever...and kinda cute *blushes* Don't tell him I said that.

BUT, the point is that it made me feel able to put our own recent incident of deceit behind me finally. And feel a little bit more prepared for when it happens the next time. Because there will be a next time. People won't always be who they are on the Internet. Trusting people to tell the truth is the risk we take, but personally...I think it's worth taking : ) x

Just a quickie.

A few people have asked me for my address for Xmas cards. If you've already written it out and put it in an envelope, let me know and I'll do that tonight.

If you haven't, instead...the next time you're out shopping would you drop the money that you would have spent on a card and postage in a charity tin? I don't mind what...a local animal shelter, food bank, Doctors Without Borders...whatever (except The Salvation Army. They actively turn away LGBTQ so I'd rather not). Then you can tell me about it, and that way we can both get the warm fuzzies about doing something nice, and even though it's only a few pennies, it will do some practical good, as well as saving a ten-thousanth of a tree : )

Does that sound okay? It's my Festive wish.

Hope everyone's Season is Merry so far. I had a very lovely time yesterday in London. There was tinsel and everything : ) Now I have just got a week to get everything done before I get whisked away! Crikey.

Love your sparkly faces!! xxx

Can somebody have too much yarn? Yes. Yes they can.

I have a lot of yarn. Wool, acrylic, several balls, half balls...all different colors.

If you would like said yarn, or know someone who would, let me know and I'll post it off to you.

Yarn.
