Soundtrack
Mar. 29th, 2016 08:03 pmI saw this on FB and omg if it isn't the perfect song for Stumble Forward! Esp the bit when Jensen gets the letter and races to Jared's house! Ugh! Just perfect. Or at least I think so. I'll leave the final verdict to
milly_gal and
roxymissrose coz they know the story even better than I do : )
Anyway...x

Free Book Rec
Feb. 22nd, 2016 10:22 pmWriters, Procrastinators, Big Bangers!
Writing Faster FTW by L. A. Witt is free on Amazon for short time, so you might want to snap it up.
I've only read the intro so far, but it looks like a guide to finding your own path to productivity. Plus, Lori is really fun writer and being that she knocks out 80k a month in words, I reckon she probably knows a thing or two.
Also...free. Maybe leave a nice review in exchange. I thought I'd just mention it x

Feb. 21st, 2016 08:11 pmThe dog that has been staying went home today. Usually Lily is relieved, but this time she's pining for him.
I, however, am relieved. Very fudging relieved.
I've got a week to finish this damn book. I'm behind, and feel like I'm flagging badly but I think I can do it. Only 20k to go. *cries*
Anyway...love your faces...esp if they're anything like this : ) xxx

During our conversation yesterday, when Milly and I talked about...well, everything actually...I remembered this article by Edmond Manning, and thought I'd share it.
In the small time that I've been edging my face into the world of mm writers, the most astounding cases of catfishing you can imagine have been going on. Like...mind-boggling deception, and I don't just mean revelations of women using male pen names, but whole world building and casts of characters over years. It's quite something.
Anyway, lots has been written on it, but this post I thought was particularly good. Also written by a really great writer. Who's very funny. And clever...and kinda cute *blushes* Don't tell him I said that.
BUT, the point is that it made me feel able to put our own recent incident of deceit behind me finally. And feel a little bit more prepared for when it happens the next time. Because there will be a next time. People won't always be who they are on the Internet. Trusting people to tell the truth is the risk we take, but personally...I think it's worth taking : ) x

Nice things are nice : )
Nov. 1st, 2015 07:39 pmSo, today has been rather nice!
I won a thing!

This is 100% down to
wings128 who I made the thing for, and I have a sneaking suspicion may have nominated me (Actually...I have no idea! Did you?!) So, that was rather awesome.
And it's no surprise to me that so many of my flisties are on the winners rostrum, coz you guys are just wonderful and so, so talented. Congratulations to everyone : )
And then wings...again!!...posted a lovely rec of my Halloween fic! I wasn't sure anyone would read the weird little thing, so for her to make a post about it is super fucking special to me. Thank you so much, Darling : ) Thank you to
somersault_j too, for making me post it in the first place : )
And then...Lily, who has been super, super sick with kennel cough, actually hasn't coughed at all today and there's been minimal snottage too! \0/ Which is super awesome as I have a hospital appointment on Tuesday and she has to be well enough to go to daycare.
And theeeen, I got to see my neice (not really my neice but the connection is too complicated to explain so henceforth...neice) in the park and she was adorable!! She even let me hold her, despite her going through a super clingy period right now, so that was lovely.
Also, last night for Halloween I watched Hellboy, which I haven't seen in ages and it was fun! I forgot how much fun it was.
And then I read The Tutor by Bonnie Dee...

...which is fucking fantastic! An m/m gothic romance, in which a guy fakes his way into becoming a tutor for twin boys living in a drafty mansion, with their grief-stricken, and coincidentally, handsome father. I really enjoyed it. The writing is fantastic, and the story is brilliant. Dont be fooled by the "Sound of Music/Secret Garden" comparison in the description. It's a ghost story – more Woman in Black than Jane Eyre if you ask me. I genuinely got the shivers at a couple of points...and not just coz of the sexytimes either! : ) But anyway. Not a waste of pennies. I shall definitely be reading it again : )
So, that was nice too : )
Let's hope the rest of the week keeps being nice. I could use it! Love your faces xxx

Look harder...
Jul. 4th, 2015 01:58 pmWhen my son was a very little boy he loved The Lion King. Like LOVED it.
I shit you not, I must have watched that thing over a thousand times. At least. We both knew all the words and several items were broken with him reenacting the "They call me Mr Pig!" scene.
When he moved on, it was such a relief. I vowed never to watch it again.
But, God Damn...this fan trailer makes me want to go put it on right now!! Just brillant : )

Just a super quick rec.
A 20min radio broadcast on the challenges of English to non-native speakers (yes, that means you too US contingent) presented by Henning Wehn, a German comedian who's relatively well known here (and very funny : )
Thought you guys might find it interesting. I know now why I'm so damn confused all the time. I may move to Germany : ) xx

I don't know how you guys feel about conceptual art or the actor in question. I definitely know more about the first one than the latter.
Anyway, Shia Labeouf is doing a collaboration with some folk and he's live streaming his heartbeat for a week.
Sounds like pile of wank? Maybe, but when you see and hear his heart beating on the screen, it's actually quite strange. Intimate.
I like it. But then I would : )

Digital Painting
Photoshop with standard brushes.
So I had a day off...which apparently involves me drawing for two hours, painting in Ps for three and then editing the video of me painting for another three. Mmmm, relaxing : )
A couple of people mentioned speed videos, so I did that. If it's interesting, I shall do some more : )
Also, three guesses who I'm blaming for this ...♥

On Writing
Oct. 23rd, 2014 01:05 pmI didn't do a Tuesday yesterday because of the fun but gratuitous art deadlines, and dogs believing I've left them for dead and therefore eating all kinds of nasty out of the garbage even though I was gone about five minutes and now are sick and need to poop every hour reasons.
Ep.( thought on the ep...cut for spoilers not length : ) )
Anyway, mainly I just wanted to get this out. Been discussing ideas for stories with
deansdirtybb and I was reminded of this portion - swiped and cropped for your reading pleasure - from Stephen King's On Writing. If you haven't read it/don't own it, you should. I thought it was just me but every recommended list and article on being a better writer I've read, leads with this as it's primary recommendation. Plus, it's King, so it's down to earth and a pleasure to read.
( From On Writing, Ch5 I think...cherry picked bits at least )
I also saw an interview with him (which I can't find although it might be in the lecture below, come to think of it) where he was talking about stopping his car on a back road somewhere (for gas maybe) and there being a river nearby, wandering over and looking down into the water and thinking "What would happen if I fell in right now? No one knows I'm here. There's no one around to see it. My body would be carried away. I'd just disappear." Or words to that effect.
Anyway, these two things really stuck with me and this is what my brain does now. Everything is a What If... to me. Plus, you throw in J2 and God Dammit my brain just won't shut up. Luckily, he also had this advice too : )
You can watch his whole lecture here, if you're interested. It's about an hour long.
Anyway, I don't even now if that's interesting, or whatever but, yeah...

Poetry of Motions
Sep. 4th, 2014 02:01 pmI did something unthinkable today...I went on my RL facebook page. I think FB is evil and unless it's being used for scavenger hunt reasons, I tend to avoid it.
Except...
I follow (am friends with?) Lament ofa Shopmonkey. This is a guy who worked for years in the famous WildCat piercing shop in Brighton. They sold everything from plain old earrings to gigantic buttplugs and other weird shit (not thinking about sounding, I'm not *shivers*). Basically he's been there, done that and has the photos too prove it.
Anyway, since before the shop shut, his statuses have been a source of constant joy. He's irreverant, filthy, crass, beautifully poetic, keenly observant and really quite meloncholically funny. If you have FB it's very much worth following (friending?) him just to get a snippet of his random thoughts and wonderful vocabulary in with the cat videos and buzzfeed quizzes. He probably not for everyone, but he makes me smile.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Hope all your Thursdays are being magnificent : ) xxx
( Just a few to be going on with : ) Probably likely to cause offence if you're that way inclined x )

Put this on the top of your to read list, right now.
Do not let the warnings put you off.
There is nothing gratuitous in this fic. There's violence but handled beautifully.
It's fucking fantastic.
And if you think it's not your cup of tea, read it anyway. It might surprise you.
I'm utterly in love with it x
