13th Dec: alycat - something that inspires you?

I've been thinking about this...unsuccessfully.

I really don't know.

In terms of stories, I tend to play the "what if..." game a lot so inspiration comes from everywhere. Right now the long story I'm working on came about because I pass the same office block every morning and always glance in at the security guards and wondered one day whether they ever notice me nosing around.

In terms of me personally...idk...I think things like Touching the Void (which if you haven't read or seen it...omg, go right now and do that). I figure if that half dead guy can drag his broken body across rocks like glass for however many days, I can get out of bed when my alarm goes off when it's a bit chilly.

Art-wise, I guess it's my own lack of skill and desire to learn to do better. I think knowing that I can improve is the main thing that drives me. Sometimes it feels like I'm not improving but I always figure there's something to be learned through practice and that keeps me moving forward.

Sometimes it's a song or a phrase or a cool looking tree...but I don't think there's one specific thing or even things...

Which all sounds kinda uninspiring : / But yeah...that : ) x

I think this was a good answer. After all, its' the small things that inspire us, doesn't need to be huge things to make us want to create or simply get out of the bed each morning :)

I don't know...some people seem to have a thing, y'know? Like a driving inspiration that really fires them up. I don't have one of those. I like cake and alpacas and fluffy socks...stuff like that.

Maybe if I had a thing I'd get more done : ) x

I stumbled across the documentary Touching the Void on PBS years ago and it haunts me to this day, especially to hear them telling the story in their own words. It really is one of the most inspiring stories of human survival and what a person is capable of I've ever heard. YES, it comes highly recommended from me, as well!!
