22nd Dec: jj1564 - what is your favourite Christmas movie or song


My go to Christmas movies are Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Bad Santa, The Christmas Cottage and Muppet Christmas Carol.

I also love The Box of Delights which was a British kids TV miniseries, which was so weird and macabre...shape-shifters, child kidnappings, wolves, weird magicians...just very hauntingly festive. If you can find it, it's definitely worth a look.

As for songs...

Nat King Cole is one of my most favorite singers and this song just so perfect and heartfelt...it's just lovely.

I have to say Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is a favorite too but I find it really so very sad. I love Jensen's version of it of course, Judy Garland's probably more, but yeah...it's a little depressing. Probably why I like it : )

I also love Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacCall, Yule Shoot Your Eye Out by Fall Out Boy, and So Much Wine by The Handsome Family as some more realistic expressions of the festive season : )

When my mom and aunt were here at the weekend they asked which Christmas film we were going to watch and when I suggested those, they were making fun of me. But when my son got here and they asked him, he said exactly the same thing! Their faces were a picture! It was so funny : )

The Judy Garland version of A Merry Little Christmas has always been my favorite Christmas song. It's melancholy and haunting and so beautiful.

I am a HUGE sucker for the Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet of Little Drummer Boy and Peace on Earth. I just found out this year that it was supposed to be the two of them singing Little Drummer Boy, but David Bowie refused saying he hated the song. So some quick thinking producer thought of the intertwined songs. A bit of musical magic as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with David on that one. Little Drummer Boy creeps me out for some reason but that duet is so special.
Best not talk about the other thing I think I've seen You've Got Mail about 20 times too : / x

We just watched The Muppet Christmas Carol, it's a classic! Die Hard is so great too, Bruce Willis saving the day in a vest, yippeekayyay!!

I love nat King Cole's voice, it's so rich and sweet and beautiful. I used to hate 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' as it sounds so sad and depressing when Judy Garland sings it, but now, for some reason (!!) I love it!
