I'd never drawn a dragon before. Thankfully there were several really good tutorials on YouTube, some rather fine renderings of dragons to use as inspiration. As you can see, he went through several poses (mostly coz OMG what in the hell are you supposed to do with those gigantic wings!?) before I settled on the final pose. I didn't really mean for him to be that colour but I started using it to sketch with and I loved the way it looked like a sepia photograph or etching or something. So I kept it : )

I really wanted to try to see Jared in flight and thought an animation could be fun. In the end I used some of the frames from this old pic I found of a bird in flight...





Then I drew a stick figure dragon over the bird poses to get a vague idea of the motion.

Then I drew each frame of the dragon properly by hand then scanned the frames back in, and voila!

Dragon.
