Today, the delicious Clare London has allowed me to write a rambling post as part of her Birthday Blog month, about starting out as a writer of m/m.

When I signed up to take part, I didn't have a clue what to write so hopefully I've not screwed up. Or sound like a dick.

I don't know why, dearest. It reads wonderfully, it's honest, it tells of your journey, and boasts about your successes. I think it was brave to include mention of your fandom exploits because isn't there a tendency to look down on those of us who begin there, so kudos to you, BB.

I'm working the beta comments through in my head, changed the ending, ironed out a couple of the areas mentioned in feedback, but it's the timeline that's messing with me *frowns*. Still, as Milly just said, I've still got six days until my personal deadline.

Hee! I think it was someone else *eyeballs a certain someone* who hinted at sequels, but I'm excited too. I want to get this one out first, y'know, pave the way :D :D

I'm actually shocked at the number of m/m writers who started in fanfic. I think Lit Fic does definitely have a downer on us, maybe Romance too, but I think M/M and other lgbtq writers are fine with it. Actually in the goodreads m/m awards, there is a category for free fiction and discontentedwinter, I think, had two nominations, so it's much more open-minded about it.

I hope the timeline is going okay. I know that can be a bitch. You'll do okay though. Just keep plugging : ) xxx

I wrote seven pages this morning for a scene that I thought would be only about one or two, lol. So I'm happy about that. I'm hoping the time line side of things will be easier to iron out once I've tweaked all the other little bits that have been mentioned. Fingers crossed. xx

Most of us have the same story of happening upon fanfiction, then reading fanfics, and writing in the end. It's the publishing part of your story - you being brave enough to take that step so many others only dream about - that makes it so special. It's absolutely awesome!
