Apparently behind the content stealing bot there was a human being somewhere who has decided to listen to reason, of sorts. The site now has a complain page.

You can leave a complaint, telling them they have posted your content without permission, and you wish it to be removed. Also, you can tell them not to post any of your content in the future too. But you need to be very specific, and also ask your page and/or your communities to be added to their exclusion list. (Read some of the comments for examples on what to write)

The best thing is, if you really are specific in your request, they seem to be complying!!!

Please spread this information, since they have apparently stolen content from tons of pages. (They even admit it in comment, that since they post stuff from like a thousand pages, they didn't want to take the time to as for everyones permission! They even used Creative Commons licence as an excuse to stealing, even though content needs to be clearly marked for CC before it falls under it. Stupid people are stupid...)

All this being said, I've regained some hope in the world, and just want to shout a big YES to this victory :)

When I went over to check...the muthafucka had reposted one of my personal entries! Not even fic!

Needless to say I left a stinky message asking for it to be removed and all the comms I mod to be added to the exclusion list as well.

It's definitely worth popping over and searching for your journal name to see if any of your stuff has ended up there.

Seriously, he's such a douche. He saying now that him making ad revenue from our fanfic is no different from a fanfic writer becoming well known and then making money from original fic!

To which I pointed out, he just admitted to making a profit from copy written material : )

Unfortunately, you put something on the web and it's out there, forever! Doesn't matter if you 'erase' it, it still will exist in some way until the interweb collapses.

Intellectual property is a nightmare. My cousin is a professional cartoonist and the legal battles he's had to fight just coz people appropriate his work. There was even one guy selling tshirts with his Dr Who.comic strip on that he claimed were his because he employed another artist to basically trace the orginal image and therefore it didn't count! Fucking fuckwits!

I think you just kinda have to let it go a bit and just hope that people like this fanfic douchebag trip and impale themselves on their own selfishness xx

Very true, the internet is a scary place sometimes! At least with this site they do remove the posts when you ask them, but it makes me wonder if there are other similar sites we don't know about. But we won't let these douchenozzles spoil our fun!
