This fucking article has made me sick to my stomach.

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Supernatural-Queerbaiting-Destiel-1089286.aspx

These fucking people make me so angry! I left an angry message and an official complaint.

I feel better now...

Actually I don't. I'm fucking mad as hell!!

This isn't the first article I read on queerbaiting, spn and other shows. I'll do as J.A. and continue to ignore it, hoping it will go away.

I think this got my goat because she's talking as if she represents all of us and I fucking hate that.
It's basically trolling, and I know I shouldn't bite but...grrrr! x

Yes, you're so right. This person speaks like she's doing it in the name of fandom, like it's an official thing. And yes, she's trolling. The thing the 200th episode showed us is that we're allowed to watch the show the way we want, not to shove our vision in other's people throat. And after that, people are still wondering why JA is uncomfortable with this...

I heard about this. Haven't read it and won't because these kind of people are better to just ignore. Their bullshit is just that a lot of shit. This is a thing that has been going on for so long, people wanting Supernatural to be what they want, to be this kind of social justice thing, and represent something that was never meant to represent. This show has had a setting from the get go, it's not about women or the LGBT. If they are represented, that's great, if they are not it shouldn't be a such a big issue. People who go into this sort of rant page don't realize that they give that community the worst representation. They are not better than the bullies that call LGBT people derogatory names.

So don't be angry, because that's what these kind of people want. To rile up fans and get the attention they desperately need in the their lives. Attention seekers, that's all they are. And if we all learn to ignore this kind of shit, you can be sure it will happen less and less until there is only one single asshole trying is best to get attention, or there is none at all left.

Jesus fucking christ. What does that article even mean? That was all queerbaiting? It wasn't real? We won't see Dean and Cas having sex on TV? I am shocked!! How dare they! I'm definitely going to stop watching now. Thank god for that article!!

I mean, come on, I don't watch for the actors and the unbelievable strong and lovable and vulnerable and sacrificial characters they built for us. I don't watch for the car, and I definitely don't watch for the music. I don't watch for the epic brotherly love and the things they will do for each other. I don't watch for the comedy. I don't watch for the awesome supporting characters they gave us. I don't watch for the mythology. I don't watch for the tears I cry and the smiles they give me.

I don't watch because we have the most awesome fandom. And the most important reason is that I don't watch for Sam and Dean.

*snorts* You will never be able to change their minds. They're stuck on this. Maybe they should just write their own fucking show!!

Whatever this article is, I think the worst part is all the people screaming YES in the comments, agreeing and turning all the funny things happening on the show into something far too serious.

And btw, so you survived your drunk and all emotional mom, eh?

It's just ridiculous. Currently having a screaming match with someone who thinks the insults people used to wind Dean up are confirmation of Destiel...JFC. The only one in all this that does actually queerbait is Misha. but no one pulls him up on it. It's fucking stupid.

Anyway.

Oh GOD! Only just. At one point she suggested that maybe I should start going to church! Me! It's like I never met the woman before.
She did look after me and walked the dog and fed me cake. I just could have done without the drunken crying : )

I just scrolled through some of the comments. It's really entertaining how everyone thinks they know the answer to all things.

See, YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST LET HER DO THE LAUNDRY. It would have distracted her and kept her from wanting you to go all holy.

This is click-bait. Every time someone (including you or anyone reading this post) clicks that link, you give the writer what they want and make her editors very happy. Every time you leave a comment on said post, that's generating another hit, and the cycle continues. Everyone being upset about this is making her editors very, very happy, and will make sure they give this particular writer lots more assignments to piss people off in the future and generate hits.

if it's any consolation, the editor of the actual TV Guide magazine publication dissed her on twitter and said she works only for online and not the magazine and that they are separate entities with separate owners. I think she's going to get herself black-listed for this shit, honestly

I'm reaching the point where I think the show should just get rid of all romantic "subtext" so we don't have to hear about this any more...NO ONE WANTS OR GETS ANY KIND OF LOVE, OKAY?! Saving people, hunting things, the family business (aka, no humor, no sarcasm, no complex human emotions, no friendships/buddies/pals *winkwink* allowed) - Lets just leave it at that.

Yup...or y'know, if they just got rid of the whole angel storyline, that should pretty much fix the issue ; )

(I'm kidding! JSYK) xx

From: [identity profile] siennavie.livejournal.com
For some reason, that idea seems more far-fetched :P

But now I'm happily picturing all the angels spontaneously combusting into billions of bloody pieces. Sam and Dean would get over the surprise quickly, shrug at each other, step over the fallen trench coat to climb into the Impala and drive off into the sunset.

Oh, I want to see them 'splode into billions of sparkly twinkly bits! I've always thought they were a bloodless group, disengaged from humanity except for meddling.

But--that's just my issues.

Partly my issues too. Sparkly, twinkly bits would be pretty, but it seems too...shiny and clean for them. How about dust? :P

I have a friend with anxiety issues and articles like this get her so riled up and i end up spending hours calming her down after reading them. I read it (posted elsewhere so they didnt get my clicks) and sat there thinking HUH? WTF?

Destihellers are the BANE of fandom and MISHA the grand shit-stirrer of it all. Personally I wish he and his character would fuck off from the storyline and show forever....

Thank you for giving me something to not read. Wankers who don't deserve the oxygen.

It's interesting, the whole queerbaiting thing - one of my friends, who's gay (and God don't I sound like a hipster - "I have a gay friend") looooves it when gay things, subtext or not, turn up in shows. He considers it a sign that the world is starting to accept gayness as a legit thing. It turned up in a random line in and ad and he actually messaged me like "this is so great!" Guess what? People like to have their relationships represented! Amazing!

*breathes*

Ugh. I hate how smug she comes off - so sure in her point of view when it's all conjecture of how she thinks the showrunners are slanting things. I think they've been pretty clear on their intentions with the show, they've never tried to hide the fact that they intend to play Dean as a straight character.

Also... *sigh* just personally, I don't see anything other than a strong respect from Castiel to Dean, and not as much in the last few seasons. They've grown apart, which I think the show is doing on purpose because of how much they get harassed over Destiel.

I started reading the article then gave up and I am a destiel girl! (Actually I'm a Dean with more or less any male character on the show girl!!) I don't understand how a 'fan' can be so negative of the show and to accuse it of 'queer-baiting' is just spiteful. I'm pleased you made a complaint, it was very subjective 'journalism' to say the least! I have to say I had never read any gay porn or knew much about gay relationships before reading SPN fan fic and I believe it's made me more open-minded and given me much more understanding, so thank you SPN!

Also, I think fan-fiction enables us to explore areas the show won't or can't go into, including wincest and destiel. I believe that in the show Dean & Cas share, as Cas puts it, a profound bond but it would never work with them getting together - for the same reason neither brother can have a long-term relationship - Sam and Dean and their relationship are the crux of the show.

I'll stop rambling now, I really should be going to bed!

Yep, I let rip on that as well. the article was fucking ridiculous, and I told them as much. I'm sick to death of hearing it to be honest. The show is mainly written by men, from male points of view, including male humour. The PC crowd, and the women who obviously have never had close male friends, are the ones who don't get it and cry foul. I have many more male friends than females. I know how deeply men can love their platonic friends - male, female, straight or gay. I also know they say shit like, "frankly, the last time anyone looked at me like that I got laid" to each other ALL the time! Men pretty much use sexual innuendo in their jokes constantly.

I thought after the 200th episode where they finally hammered the last nail in the coffin of canon Destiel so damn obviously that these people would finally get it and hold it in their fanon hearts and move along. Nope. But for an official publication to print this shit. UGH!

I'm fucking mad as hell as well.

What is WRONG with people, seriously! For the love of...and now everyone thinks this is ALL of us!!! Xx

Edit: Where did you complain to cos...not on, just not fucking on!

Edit the second! I so just let rip! No comment on the article cos I won;t give her the satisfaction, but I sent this in as a complaint! Fucking stupid idiotic fanon freak!

This article http://www.tvguide.com/News/Supernatural-Queerbaiting-Destiel-1089286.aspx is truly disturbing and disgusting. I can't believe you allowed this HACK to write something this inflammatory on your website and publish it under the guise of being 'journalism'.

She speaks as if this is an opinion of every fan of the show, she speaks out of turn, she speaks complete and utter DROSS! I understand that your online publications are designed to garner hits and create revenue but come ON!

Now, the entire of your online readership is either EXTREMELY angry at you for allowing this total rubbish onto your website, OR they think this is how the fans of the show act/think. Pathetic!

I am logging an official complaint as to the nature of this article and, not that I think it will happen, I personally want a retraction or a removal of the article from the website and I don't think I'm the only one!

from a lurking reader...

Sigh. When did queerbaiting get co-opted from its actual meaning to this crap? *looks at urbandictionary.com definition* Oh. November 3rd 2014. *votes down new definition, votes up old definition, recommends others do the same*

As a long-time (20 years already? dear god, when the fuck did I get old) bisexual activist, this kind of stuff pisses me off so much. Giving the ability to read more into a story than is written there isn't insulting to the queer community. It's a way of saying, not our reality, but it's okay to read your own into it.

On top of it all, it's NOT queerbaiting. Queerbaiting is a term that existed previously, for a problem that still exists to this day, and the folks who are co-opting the term are just proving that they don't *actually* care about queer issues OR THEY WOULD KNOW THAT.

Just... just no.
