I am so, so proud and happy. I didn't think it would happen today-- until recently, I didn't even think it would happen in my lifetime. I'm not proud to be an American as often as I would like, but I am today.
I thought the statement they gave was beautiful. I have to say, sometimes the rest of the world does give a collective sigh at some of the stuff going on over there with you, so I think it made it extra special today. We're all genuinely celebrating not just for the freedoms it's going to give people but that it somehow makes y'all seem just a bit less scary knowing that the Conservative Right doesn't get it's way all the time : ) xx
I'm glad we seem less scary now. :-) TBH, a lot of what I see in the news about my fellow countryfolk probably scares ME more than any outsider! Well, I sometimes think the way we're presented to the world is distorted... I don't think the conservative right gets its way all that often, but any amount is too often for me. And they certainly are LOUD about it. Our triumphs are quieter. <3
LOl, I didn't know this happened until I got home and got on LJ. And.... neither did my sister when she and her wife booked a trip to Provincetown this weekend. For those of you folks across the pond who might not be familiar, Provincetown is often referred to as the #1 Gay community in America. It's going to be insane there today, and I'm so happy they're there.
I think this was a case of the minority out voting and shouting the majority and most people wanted this, but the obnoxious amongst them were shouting to loud to be heard! Finally our friends can do as they please when they please however they please :) xx
I think it's difficult when a culture is built on the acquisition of wealth, rather than social conscience, and when mostly everyone with power, influence and money is a fucking bigot, only interested in serving themselves. I do think the right wing is in the minority but they are such bullies as so used to making everyone's lives a living hell to get their way. It feel like this decision was really important for so many reasons.
And given that we're living in a political sea of blue right now, we're very much heading that way. Luckily we don't have quite the fundamentalist Christian issue to deal with. Yet : ) xx
