I wanted to post this yesterday but I was feeling so awful last night, I could not finish it in time, so apologies for the tardiness.
Anyway...

To celebrate the fictional-imaginary boyfriend's birthday this year I decided to try the Apple-Pie Burrito from [livejournal.com profile] justinedelarge's fic, Sure Got A Dirty Mouth and watch Porky's 2, the film Dean would like most to live in.

Dean and I have a lot in common. Our love of food, especially pie, is one of those things. So when I read about the pie burrito that Sam makes for Dean in SGaDM, I was needless to say, very excited. The lovely author sent me instructions and if ever there was a day to try them out, it was yesterday.

Only needed some sweet pastry, a cooking apple, brown sugar, cinnamon (I used mixed spice) butter and wraps
image-11image-10image-7
So, all it took was to peel the apple and cook it down with the sugar, spice and a  bit of butter at then end...
image-9image-8image-6
To cut slices of pastry and bake while the apple cooked...
image-5image-4image-3image-2
To put the apple and piecrust on the wrap and construct the burrito...

Eat the burrito

Try not to laugh and choke yourself because you're taking pictures of yourself eating a burrito.

Easy and really, seriously, delicious! I will totally be making this again. In fact, I'd make one now if I had more apples!

Review of Porky's 2

I have to say I wasn't really looking forward to watching this but I did, partly as I promised the WoL over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_bunker that I would for the files but also because Dean and I do have very similar tastes in movies and if he likes it, then there's a good chance I would like it.

There was a lot of discussion of why, of all the movies in existence, why would Dean pick this as the one he would choose to live in if he had the chance and why Porky's 2, why not Porky's?

I was very grateful for the recap montage at the beginning of the film as it had been such a long time since I'd seen the original although it gave me a sinking feeling as it was pretty badly done but the first line of the film made me laugh out loud and I have to say if you have a puerile sense of humour like mine (Dude, Where's My Car?, is in my top 5), then it does have some really quite funny moments. The first scene is the main-ish character, Pee Wee, getting out the ruler he keeps by his bed and measures himself with every morning, complete with chart. Sound familiar? : )

The movie basically consists of two main aspects -
- pranking your friends
- righting injustice.

Most of the movie consists of pranks - a snake in the toilet bowl, making dissection frogs look like they're wanking...getting a hooker to pretend that she's a librarian that gets off on cemeteries and get your drunk friend to act like a zombie to scare your friends when you turn up with said hooker and a bunch of friends for a 'gangbang' but then the friends double crossed you and pay the hooker to pretend to die just as you're about to bang her (peen of death) and you end up running naked down the road pursued by said zombie friend in view of the police...amongst other daft and occasionally dangerous things.

I can absolutely picture itching powder in the underwear drawer and super gluing someones hand to a bottle, slipping right in there. And the lovely thing is is that although the group of friends prank and tease, they never stop being friends. It makes complete sense why Dean would like that.

This movie also takes on creative freedom and racism. The main plot (and I use the word loosely) is that the high school kids are putting on an Evening with Shakespeare and the local religious nut group decide that it's unsuitable for kids to perform and so try to get it banned. Cue a fantastic literary battle between the Reverend Bubba Flavel, quoting what could be seen as obscenities from Midsummer Night's Dream, and the Principal returning in kind quotes from the Bible. I quite like the idea that Dean's secret reader side would quite like this.

Then throw in that one of the performers is an American Indian that the KKK beat up and threaten and there's just a whole bevvy of bad guys to deal with...through the medium of pranking, of course.

So the Commissioner who was supposed to be on their side but defected for votes, get humiliated by a teenage girl in a restaurant, helped along by an outrageous outfit and fake boobs filled with fake vomit. The other commissioners are taped watching porn together and saying how the Reverend had supplied it which is later played at a rally the Reverend is hosting and the KKK get their heads shaved, are stripped naked and dropped at said rally.

Come the end it was ranging into Blazing Saddles levels of insanity. But I was laughing
So I can see why Dean would like this. People getting their just deserts but without having to chop anyone up or dig up any bodies. By the end all is right in the world and nobody dies.

The other thing that sort of surprised me was the role of women in this. If I can recall correctly (which is hard, as I totally inhaled) the premise of the first movie was to get Pee Wee laid and I was expecting a similar level of boob jokes and generally over sexualised representations of women again. But in P2, it becomes more about Pee Wee finding trust in a relationship with the only girl he's ever slept with.
Yes, there are strippers and boobs and jokes about gangbangs but ultimately Pee Wee's storyline is now about being in a relationship. And the girl he's with is fun and clever and strong and I wasn't offended by her character at all.
There's a great bit when they're having a heart to heart and she is explaining that her reputation as a slut is just gossip but she doesn't care how people perceive her.
"I do what I want. I don't care what anybody thinks." which sounded very familiar.
Women are portrayed as sexual but strong which I didn't mind. I wouldn't exactly give it as a shining example of feminism but there was some sense of equality. Also there's just, if not more naked man flesh in this than women's.

One thing I did notice. There are a distinct lack of parents present. The only time one is shown is Pee Wee's Mom is the teacher directing the play, but she's very cool and stands up for the kids. Other than that, everyone just seems to do what they want, when they want. There's no having to ask, or checking in. All the kids act as independent adults. I can see Dean both being able to relate to this and wish for it, as being independent was only half of his life, the other half being totally subservient to John.

I think also one of the friends might be gay. I couldn't be sure as it subtle and I was worried the slash goggles may have slipped on but there did seem to be some jokes about him playing Oberon ("so the big fairy and the little fairy run around the woods together?") which seemed to be given and taken with affection and his reaction to interacting with a guy outside of the group seemed to be...well, it looked like eye-sex to me. But it seemed like it was openly accepted and not a big deal to the group, which I liked a lot. And I think Dean would too (Howdy Partners)

It's set in 1954 so there as some gorgeous cars in it (love a bit of car porn), the music is good early rock and the acting is relaxed (ranging from bad, to silly, to brilliantly comedic).
There's a grave yard, a fake zombie, boob jokes, cross-dressing, a group of friends where even the slightly outcast guy is embraced as a member of the group. It's funny and ridiculous and offensive and stupid and puerile and really not a good movie.
And I liked it.

As for why Dean would want to live in it...he would be in high school, with a group of friends who would be fun to hang out with, had the same sense of humour as him and would accept him no matter what, be in a relationship with a girl who was strong and funny and sexy, drive a very cool car, have little or no parental intervention, get to protect his friends from the injustices of the world and quote Shakespeare like a weapon.

So what made no sense, wanting to live in a terrible sequel to an awful movie, does actually make complete and, quite frankly, heartbreaking sense. I don't imagine for a minute that this is his favourite movie but as far as Dean living the dream goes...yes...this.

Of course, I'm sure all y'all would have a different take on it and should you fancy giving it a go, you can watch it here on Youtube

I'm gonna go eat a salad and read some Kafka...Happy Birthday, Baby : ) x

Great essay! I never in my life even considered watching Porky's 2.... and now I still probably won't, but I love what you did here.

Dean breaks my heart REPEATEDLY. I just want to hug him... but then demons would possess me and I'd get stabbed and he'd get Cas to wipe my memory. :(

I don't know if I could in good conscience rec it but I'm glad I watched it : )

I feel quite sad about him wanting all that stuff and never getting it but the fact that Sam knew...was it because of something Dean had said before or just that he knows Dean's deepest desires so well?...I think another WoL will have to deal with that one : )

Also, I'm totally up for the possession and stabbing if it means I get to hug him...naked...and roofied...for 48 hours...aaand there's my ideal world right there! : ) x

Oh man, that apple pie burrito. @_____@ THAT LOOKS GLORIOUS. I'm not familiar with sweet pastry as a thing--is it available at like, a general grocery store? Is it basically pie crust? Though if it's meant to actually hold together as a burrito maybe I'd be better off seeking out the store-bought kind to try first. XD

Happy birthday, Dean!

Also, kudos to you for watching Porky's 2! I've noticed I'm beginning to develop this EXTREME, bizarre interest in Dean's love of Dr. Sexy (to the point where I'm pretty sure I could write Dr. Sexy) and media in general, so I loved your review/analysis very much. :D

O_o

You should totally start a Dr Sexy comm! Then get a kind of fic tag thing going someone writes an ep and then the next person follows on from that, but in a proper soap opera style melodrama type way! That would be hilarious!! DO IT!!! x

LOL omg I would love to do something like that as like, a goofy summer challenge or something at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time. Maybe have a list of medical drama cliches and soap opera cliches, and then people could write Dean H/C fics that foregrounded Dr. Sexy in some way--be it the Winchesters holed up and watching, or some other more inventive thing. It would be hilarious. XDD

Because I've definitely written two episodes of Dr. Sexy as it is. Or well, I've written Dean watching or thinking about two separate episodes of Dr. Sexy, in any case. (There's one where there's this hot guy who's the son of an independently wealthy hotel manager but who's ALSO DYING OF FOUR RARE DISEASES and he has last night on earth sex in a custodial closet with his doctor and then angsts while bathed in moonlight. And there's another episode where it opens with Dr. Sexy and Dr. Piccolo ballroom dancing, and then Dr. Sexy confesses his love to Dr. Piccolo and then they kiss BUT WAIT IT WAS ALL A DREAM----!.) I would die of happiness if other people got on that boat, too. XD

What can I say. I'm obsessed with Dean's obsessions.

Oh Pleeeese make this a thing!!

If people signed up to a day in a month and each day was assigned a cliche or trope and that day they had to write and post an ep that ended in a cliff hanger and then the next day the next person had to start their story where the last one left off.

THAT would be awesome!! x

SQUEEEEE!!!! OMG that will be so awesome! Let me know if you need a hand with anything. I imagine you'll need a couple of stand by pinch hitters in case people pull out at the last minute and stuff.
I'm going to start watching medical dramas in preparation!! x

Yes, just pie crust, justine recommended Marie Callendar's pie crust but we don't have that here and you just need some for the filling. I thought it would be nice but it was seriously delicious! I was so surprised. I think I may start eating everything in burrito form : ) x

AHHH ... all the pleasures of watching Porky's 2 without actually having to watch it!! This was better than any review/plot description I've ever seen of a movie I was trying to understand; you really got to the heart of not just what happens, but of its appeal. I feel like I understand Dean better now. ;-) And the pie burrito looks delightful!

My heart really sank at the beginning but I was really surprised at how much I laughed at it. But then I am about twelve!...I made notes and everything : ) x
