I've totally just written myself into a corner. I need the Hive Mind!!
Character 1 is in the ICU. I was going to have the nurse give Character 2 his effects and Character 2 was going to take the keys to his apartment and blah blah blah
But I just fudging realized that Character 1 is the victim of a crime and so all his effects would have been logged as evidence...including his keys..
FFFFUUUUUU!!!!
So, how does...
a) the nurse have his keys, or
b) Character 2 become motivated to go to and/or get into the apartment.
...
GO!
Thank you so much for all the help! : ) xx

Date: 2014-11-04 10:42 am (UTC)The keys were overlooked/dropped by the ER staff/paramedics in all of the kerfuffle and not noticed until after the cops left. Or the keychain was broken and although the cops took the keys, one or two were shaken loose and then found on the floor of the area he was first brought into and worked on.
C1's apartment isn't key-locked, it's a keypad, and C2 has secretly watched him enough to know the code.

Date: 2014-11-04 02:11 pm (UTC)Alternatively, if C2 has time and patience... many key boxes only have 6 numbers, so there's only 6,666 possible combinations. There's a 50% chance that the correct combo would be one of the first 3,333 that he tried, 25% that it would be one of the first 1,666 he tried, etc. My dad once found a really nice bike lock on a trail, and brought it home. Everyone was teasing him, because it was locked, and he didn't know the combination. We tried, and the combination was the 558th we tried, it took much less than 10 minutes.
