For the beautiful (goddammit, why do you have to be cute as well as everything else!)
ephermeralk,, who is sick, working really long hours, has a crazy Winston to take care of but still managed to send me some beta'd BB today, because she is fucking awesome!
She wasn't sure what 'judder' was. This advert from a few years ago doesn't explain it at all really but from now on whenever anyone says 'judder' you'll think of this. Also it's cool (haha)
Also, anyone have the foggiest what the US equivalent of 'camp' is? I need a word but not a derogatory one.

Date: 2014-05-18 09:37 pm (UTC)I wish I could be of better help with British sayings! I'll I've got usually is...I have no idea what that means, lol. And then I feel unhelpful. Still, you're so, so welcome ♥ I do hope it's useful.
YAY! ALMOST 1/2 way through your inbox. YOU CAN DO IT!!! *cheerleads*

Date: 2014-05-18 09:59 pm (UTC)Judder is kinda to violently shake or vibrate, like if you have a chill or have that 'someone walking over you grave' feeling, or you drink a really cold Scandinavian drink.
No, no! Saying you don't know what it is, is exactly the thing needed, coz if you don't, there's potentially a few more people (y'know, a continents worth) that won't know either. Figuring out the right words is my job. Getting better and keeping both Winston's ears attached to his head is yours, do that.
Also I'm thinking about extending the morning BJ scene...just thinking about it : ) x

Winston is sleeping. Ears still in tact. I'm considering an afternoon nap.
hahah. You know I'm *always* in favor of porn extensions[*cough-DO IT-*cough*], but, you know. you're just getting my stream of consciousness in comment form. Which is always porn-directed. Feel free to ignore my always desperate pleas for more porn. I know that you have an early posting date too!
and yes. I'm a fan of flaming in that context. Not derogatory, but less big-word sounding than flamboyant.

Date: 2014-05-18 10:30 pm (UTC)judder |ˈjədər| verb [ no obj. ] chiefly Brit.
(esp. of something mechanical) shake and vibrate rapidly and with force: the steering wheel juddered in his hand.
noun - an instance of rapid and forceful shaking and vibration: the car gave a judder.
DERIVATIVES juddery - adjective
It's kinda fun clicking on your notes not knowing whether I'm going to get a "," or a "OMG Why did the porn stop!" You made me laugh a lot this evening.
I still get really uncomfortable when it comes to the porning so I do think I cut it short so I don't have to talk about anything in too much detail.
I'll see on the final draft whether I can add anything without forcing it.
Glad to hear that Winston has all his bits still attached.
I'm off to bed too as it's nearly tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your help with this Hunny : ) xx

Date: 2014-05-18 10:30 pm (UTC)A good example of camp would be in Blazing Saddles when they are filming "the French Mistake". The dance in the French Mistake is "high camp" ...
I would think camp and flamboyant would be slightly different, because camp has that humor aspect on top of the flamboyant (which is about personal presentation and style) or flaming (which is about affect and attitude). Both flamboyant and flaming are words we use in the US to describe men who embrace performative aspects of gay culture... whereas camp is more about a more pervasive attitude toward culture and can be performed by men or women... like in the article where it mentions Dusty Springfield, or in Blazing Saddles again when Madeline Kahn sings her song about being So Tired. :D
So in Rocky Horror, the whole movie would be camp, whereas Frank would be flamboyant.
The two cents of Dr. Language Liss.
Also, Mr. Language Husband would like to add that "flaming" is sometimes used in a derogatory sense, but I think only by dumbasses. ... We think "flamboyant" is the more neutral of the two terms.

Date: 2014-05-19 04:53 pm (UTC)Camp here is sort of the same, effeminate with a soupçon of kitsch. But you don't have to be gay to be camp and not all gay men are camp.
Crap, I'll just fudge it together. No-one'll notice. It'll be fine : / x
