So, I've realised I've made a major mistake in my WIP. I initially made Jared an ex-NFL player and football scout, coz *shrugs* whatever.

NOW, I realise this was a horrible mistake.

I really don't like American Football. I don't like the way it's played, I don't like the uniforms, I don't like the whole attitude that goes with it. It's just not my thing.

So trying to research it over the last week, is making me unhappy.

HOWEVER, I do like...baseball. I like the history, I like the uniforms, I get the rules and the whole excitement behind it. I used to play softball so I have a little muscle memory too of stepping up to bat and praying you don't make an ass of yourself, and the relief of crossing home plate. I know very little about America's favorite pastime but getting to research that would be a joy. I've promised myself that the next time I come to the US that I will make sure I get to go to a game and experience the whole sitting in the stands thing : )

SO, I think I'm going to have to retcon. Majorly retcon.

But how should I do that? I was just going to say a thing at the start of the next chapter, but then should I go back and edit the previous parts to change all the football references? Or should I leave it? But then it would be less confusing to new readers, but is that okay to do?

IDK.

Either way, I think Jared was a pitcher, probably a closer.

And baseball is sexy : ) x

Well fuck, what a question to be asking yourself hun :/
My first thought was why doesn't she switch from American football to rugby, lol.

If it was my work, I'd be inclined to edit the whole story, simply because I'm a detail!freak and it'd annoy the hell out of me every time I thought about it, not to mention, knowing there was something out there with my name on it and it wasn't exactly how I wanted it.

Perhaps continue from where you're up to with the new sport and all that entails, then when you're finished, go back to the beginning and bring that section into line??

Psst: Baseball uniforms are rather wonderful for accentuating the positive, aren't they? ;P

I did think about going back once I'm done but tbh I have no idea where I'm going with this. This is the first time writing with no story arc in mind, or clue really to where it's going. I have scenes I want to write but as yet no end in sight : )

I think I will go back and change it, just coz it'll bug the hell out of me.

Haha, I can use that line but there's not really going to be any sports related sex. I quite like the idea that Jensen hates baseball and has no interest in Jared's job, which Jared finds bemusing and is a little sad about. Oh there's so much innuendo in baseball, pitchers and catchers not being the least of it. But then I think that's so true for most sport. I always found rugby to be really really gay, but maybe that's just me : ) x

I tried I really did. When the started airing NFL over here on TV I tried to watch it but after a couple of games I was just...no. I think when you've been brought up on rugby, it's a bit, "Why are they stopping, they just got started? They literally play for 15mins!? Why are they wearing all that padding?"

If it's any consolation Jared won't actually be playing, just coaching.

heeeeee. No, I'm just crazy hyper because of too much caffeine because I don't have to work tomorrow and I'm all EEEEEEE.

Yeah, I get that, being as I played rugby, but it stopping all the time makes for a much more delightful spectator sport. You get lots of people, chili, nachos, beer, and there's like just enough time that you can chat and not look at the TV and not miss anything, but it's still more exciting than baseball (sorry, it makes me fall asleep. I did once, in the stadium in San Francisco when I was dragged to an Oakland A's game).

Plus, the padding gives them all the extra extra shoulder-wait ratio, and all the war paint they wear. OH YEAH.

Second- interesting you mention about the football vs. baseball. I really get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think of the business of football... the head injuries, the "looking the other way" when players behave in criminal ways, the obscene amounts of money, etc. However, I cannot deny that *watching* a football game is fun, even (maybe even especially? *cringe* ) the hard hits. It's kind of like the opposite of fan-fiction for me... I dig the things that I would never like in "real life" (violence, aggression) the only thing is, it *is* real life for those guys. Go figure. I tend not to watch these past few years, as it takes HOURS for a game to play out, and the kids just can't be on their own for that long.

Baseball on the other hand.... it's less violent, and my perception is that it's a "cleaner" sport, in terms of the players etc. But... omg. I cannot sit through even one inning of a baseball game, it's sooo boring to me. Pro- baseball is the worst. One at-bat can last forever.

Just blathering really, because I am supposed to be working....

Yeah, what little I know of the culture of football just seems, I dunno, murky. But then I think all professional sports are like that right now. There a huge hooha going on over here at the moment with a soccer team thinking about reinstating a convicted rapist as a player. It's only coz all the sponsors started pulling out that they changed their minds, which is beyond fucked up.

I going to try and find some actual full games to watch and not just clips...y'know, for science...but after watching the unfuckingbelieveably eat your own face off, please god something happen, pastime that is cricket, I'm thinking I'm prepared : )

I might hate it but I at least feel like I can write about it. Also Jensen making Jared coach little league *bites fist* it'll be adorable! xxx

I see people playing Field Hockey fairly often in our arctic Vancouver winters (10 degrees C as I sit outside eating lunch staring at pussy willows on a tree). The sled dogs are an added complication. ;)

I always hated playing it in PE at school because a) it was PE and b) there were no leftie sticks. My Aussie Mum's shins were seriously dented from having played in her school days.

Baseball is boring.

Football is a complex game of strategy and skill, and once you actually grasp the rules, it makes sense and it's crazy exciting. Yeah, there's a lot of male posturing and some of the players are bad apples, but thats not completely unique to this sport. Plus, there are really good apples too, like Russell Wilson, who just get overshadowed by all the bad press. And how can you resist a sport with positions like Tight End and Wide Receiver? Maybe it helps to sit down and watch a game with someone who can explain the intricacies while it's in progress?

I'm watching a Red Sox vs Cardinals game right now and at the moment it's kinda exciting! I wish I understood the terminology more but I'm liking it : ) I think it maybe has to do with it being more my kind of pace, maybe?
There's not actually going to be any sport in the fic, which is why I thought it wouldn't matter about the football thing but this week I needed some background on the training side of things and found myself losing the will to live.

I think it's like anything, once you get into it and understand the teams and stuff it becomes really interesting. I always thought formula 1 was really dull but after watching it with my ex, I would be yelling at the TV about tyre choice and fuel consumption with the best of them : )

Maybe when I come to stay with you, you can take me to a football game! That would be so cool : ) xx

you should trust the opinions of the americans in this bunch...baseballl *yawn* .... football *GRRRRRRRRR*. Baseball is what they call the thinking man's game. ugh. Now I don't think it's because you have to be particularly smart to play or watch or understand baseball (although most baseball fanatics are ALL ABOUT THE STATS), I mean ALL ABOUT THEM!!!!! LIKE CRAZY, but because there is so much down time you find yourself "thinking" about food, about your car troubles, about whether or not you're wife's is gonna put out later. It's a bunch of overweight over roided gross guys chewing tobacco. BLAHHHHHH. ALso baseball players are assholes, seriously, they are know to be assholes.

Now football, what are you not liking about the costumes, I mean uniforms, it's all about the butt, and the shoulders, how can that be bad??? I LOVE IT!!! I just watched the playoff games last night and talked about how sexy football uniforms are. And football quarterbacks. UGH, they're all gods of men. Hot, tall, with strong arms YES!!!!! they need alot of icing down after. You know what else is hot? Jensen walking around in Jared's MUCH TOO BIG JERSEY!!!! oh fuck me.

I am however getting behind the little league coaching idea tho :P

I actually attended my first baseball game last year for Mother's Day. It was fun in the sense that the atmosphere is quite chill. For the most part, you're waiting in line to get food, eating, chatting, and jumping up now and then when something exciting happens. It's a nice family outing :) Just not something I care to watch on TV.

To be fair though, watching is quite different from reading about it. It depends on the author right? I could feel excited about a baseball game, if it was written to draw that emotion from me.

And yeah, I only started watching football because my university was one of the best in the nation at the time. They were the talk of the campus; it was impossible not to get caught up in the excitement.

If you do visit (*crosses fingers and wishes oh so hard*), we'll definitely watch a game together :)

It seems like the kinda thing I'd have on while I was doing the housework or drawing. I do that when the snooker tournaments are on, coz you can just look up at the appropriate moments of sit and watch for a while. 'S nice : )

I won't be writing any games. Partly as I know I couldn't pull it off, but also Jared is retired so he doesn't actually play. I just need to have a vague idea of what I'm vaguely writing about.

In my fantasy brain, I'm totally coming over and traveling the states on my "Eat America" tour (still haven't had any pumpkin pie!) and visiting everyone as I go! I really, really want that to happen : ) xx
